John Courtney Murray & Limitations of Dignitatis Humanae

For those who firmly believe that they can uncritically use the documents of the Second Vatican Council to serve political agendas today must be exposed.

Murray argued that the principal of human dignity means that the State must remain neutral before competing values systems, allowing each person to choose.

What remains unresolved in Dignitatis Humanae is a personalism affirmed in Natural Law between the Juridical State & the Church.  Some value systems are so primordial they cannot legitimately be the object of free choice!  Here the State cannot be neutral.  Why?  Because their cannot be two ends to the human being, as if there are two orders of existence. Political statecraft must be subordinated to the single ultimate end of human life.  Namely Liberty in the pursuit of Happiness.
